Many of the leading 2010 Melbourne Cup contenders are due to step out in the $400,000 Maykbe Diva Stakes at Flemington this saturdday over 1600 metres. The weather forecast in Melbourne is awful with 100 mils of rain forecast, so expect a heavy track if they race at all.
If Ghostmilk gets a run, she may run well and she loves the wet ground and was very good in Sydney last run

You may be thinking what is the date for the 2010 Melbourne Cup? The answer is Tuesday November 2nd 2010. The Flemington 4 day carnival commences on Derby Day on 30th October 2010, whilst the 2010 Melbourne Cup will be hosted on November 2.
If you like Faint Perfume, Once were wild represents good early value for the 2010 Melbourne Cup as she comfortable beat Faint Perfume in their last encounter which was the AJC Oaks earlier this year. 2010 looks to be the year of the females with Once were Wild, Dariana, Faint Perfume, and Valdemoro all fancied in early markets.
The Spring Racing Carnival will be very special this year with the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup. Racing Victoria will be hosting a number of special lead up events as the build up to the race which stops the nation takes on new proportions in 2010.
Punters who’s heads may be tilted forever after Bauer’s desperately close second in the 2008 Melbourne Cup, are looking forward to a possible second chance at Cup glory as Bauer is recovering from his tendon injury and continues his plans to run in the 2010 Melbourne Cup. Luca Cumani apparently has Bauer going well and about to increase his gallops so he can compete in Europe over the coming months. If all goes well Bauer the winner of the 2008 Geelong Cup may be back in Australia to go one better in 2010.
Dermot Weld the only European trainer to win the Melbourne Cup has a new contender called Rite of Passage that is likely to make the trip to Australia to run in the $6 million 2010 Melbourne Cup after Rite of Passage won the Ascot Gold Cup over 4000 metres at Royal Ascot.
Rite Of Passage was better-known as a jumper before his win on the weekend. The UK bookmakers have Rite of Passage quoted at the odds of 10-1 to win the 2010 Melbourne Cup. Entries and nominations close soon on August 3, 2010 for the big race.
The next rising star from the Lloyd Williams camp is Linton. Linton won the Stutt stakes in his 3rd race start and was very impressive running close up in the Australian Guineas. Linton is very lightly raced and has the potential to be the next superstar of the 2010 Spring Racing Carnival when he gets to distances of 2000m+
