September 1 the VRC announced the weights for the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup at Flemington in 2010. Alandi and ex Cup winner Efficient lead the weights with 58kg, then we have imports Cavalryman and Jaguar Mail with 57.5. Shocking the winner of the 2009 Melbourne Cup has 57 kg.

Metal Bender firmed in 2010 Melbourne Cup markets after his impressive win at Warwick Farm in the Warwick stakes. Metal bender is now 34-1 odds for the Cup which is 7 points firmer than he was before Saturday’s run. Rite Of Passage was better-known as a jumper before his win on the weekend. The UK bookmakers have Rite of Passage quoted at the odds of 10-1 to win the 2010 Melbourne Cup. Entries and nominations close soon on August 3, 2010 for the big race.

The next rising star from the Lloyd Williams camp is Linton. Linton won the Stutt stakes in his 3rd race start and was very impressive running close up in the Australian Guineas. Linton is very lightly raced and has the potential to be the next superstar of the 2010 Spring Racing Carnival when he gets to distances of 2000m+
